Notifying all Parents and Athletes
As a group of concerned parents of student athletes, we are currently working with the school and district to address the evidence of ethical and safety violations. We’ve requested that the school expedite our concerns, given that the evidence they are currently in possession of is not a question if\when said violations occurred and by whom.
Violations of school policy and safety standards have been provided to the school covering at least some of the complaints and exposed violations from 2022-2024.
Questions we are asking:
Should a coach that has on more than one occasion stated to female athletes to “get your FAT ASS down to” a specific weight be allowed continued access to female athletes?
Should a coach continue to have the support of the school, district and access to athletes after an athlete indicated she would not be at practice because she was sick and throwing up and unable to attend school and his reply included the following documented comments?
“It’s not like it can make you show up to practice, but want to say this is the most important week of practice for the entire season. … I can get over you not making practice…. Not making weight is something different. … will you be trying to get to the gym later?”
If this was your child, and she told her Coach that she was too sick to go to practice school. These were the comments of your child. Would you want him access to? Are you sure this wasn’t your child who was putting in this situation at the time of this post we’re not sure if the school has disclosed to the parents that this situation occurred.
Should a Coach that makes comments like these, and then tells another athlete to stay at stay in the sauna at the gym until she has lost 5 pounds of water weight be allowed to continued access to these athletes? if you were the parent of these athletes, how quickly would you want the school to remove access between the Coach and the children?
As a parent, if the school was investigating a coach and he had continued access and was coaching the female athletes at off-season events do you feel the school should have a responsibility to inform parents of the situation and determined for themselves if they want to have the Coach continued access to your child?
Would you be OK with the school simply stating that off-season events have no affiliation with the school or district despite athletes being instructed to register under chaparral high school and selecting the coach being investigated and after raising the concern with them about continued access to these female athletes?
Is it ok for a coach to tell a female athlete that she needs to get to the gym to lose an additional 2 lb and says “I swear, I’m gonna buy you a damn scale…”
Should a coach that treats these female athletes like that have been allowed to attend the banquet for the athletes and receive gifts and give out awards to the female athletes while the school and district are in possession of the text messages containing the quotes above and more and have stated the coaches texts messages “do not meet our ethical standards”?
Are you aware this same coach has already been reported for being alone with at least one female athlete?
Are you aware this same coach has invited female athletes to utilize gym equipment at his home with him?
Are you aware that this coach has wrestling mat in his home and has invited and had female athletes wrestling on the mat?
Are you aware that even after this information was given to the school athletic director, he was not aware female athletes were being invited to this coach’s home to do these things, the coach was informed to stop doing so, yet still had female athletes unaware that this was not supposed to be happening still pressured and encouraged to meet with him at his home?
At least one female athlete had not been eating or drinking after being pressured to continually use diuretics and the sauna to wrestle well below her natural weight. The athlete passed out and had to have an ambulance called. After meeting with her doctor she told the doctor the coach had continually put pressure on her to lose weight. The district and school being informed of this has still not removed access from this coach nor notified all parent athletes this type of behavior was occurring.
Despite NFHS and NCAA having restrictions against wrestling athletes using saunas and similar practices to artificially reduce athletes weights in dangerous ways, do you know which coach consistently demanded female athletes get to the gym sauna? Should this coach be allowed to continue guiding these athletes?
Are you ok having this type of coach take your athlete out of state to a sports camp? On March 16 parents were notified that he would be going to camp with the female athletes despite weeklong investigations by the school and district, and evidence, having already been provided to the behavior and language of the coach.
Time until next update\additional information release.
